Welcome to Erosology, the study of passionate love.
Erosologists believe that the fundamental truth of existence is love. Through the experience of love, we come to understand others as well as ourselves. Through studying love, we come to understand the nature of our relationships and the nature of virtue or the good.
There are different stages and types of love - from love of things, to love of others, or even love of ourselves. The highest form of love is love of perfect knowledge. We can attain this by studying our experiences. When we come to this level of love and knowledge, we transcend ourselves and our experiences, and can understand the fundamental nature of the universe. We occupy the same space as Eros, our God of passionate love.
We ascend through love by the example of the philosopher King, Socrates, and his disciples, Plato and Aristotle. Gurus around the contemporary world continue to set this example for followers of Erosologists and present seminars and foster discourse in our Symposium sacred centres. The practice of Erosology is threefold. It involves internal inquiry into the nature of ourselves and our essence, open discourse with others about the nature of that essence and lived experiences of love. Erosology is in part practiced individually, and comes together as a community in our Symposium centres.
In Erosology, the sacred is simply defined as connectedness. Where in traditional religion this might mean connection with God or Gods, in erosology it means connection with the cosmos (the realm of higher knowledge and Eros), connection with the other (our lovers and the physical world) and connection with the self (an understanding of the intuitions of the self and its place in the world). It means a connection to beauty: the beauty of knowledge and of the beauty in the world around us. Then, we realise passionate love. Then, we realise true peace.
